Though I can say looking at the Lilypond thing there is one glaring issue with it – throwing out the problems you can get into with intricate scoring – there seems to be no way (as per the example) to choose which octave the note sits in.

In there example they show that you write A and it produces an off staff later – later in the same line you type A and it produces an above staff A) – now I'm sure this is a type of some sort, but I don't know enough about the extension to correct it.

Thanks though – I may do some more research in it – I have played with lilypond in Ubuntu – and I think a windows port? Not sure if I remember the windows side as well.
