I just received the notice that the new update for the Playstation 4 comes out tomorrow. Sony has a write-up on their site that goes over the main features with more detail, but let’s hit the highlights.
- External Hard Drive Support – You can now install software directly to a USB 3.0 hard drive. It supports drive sizes up to 8TB.
- Improvements to the PS4 VR
- Voice Chat for Remote Play
- More Home Screen Optimizations
- More Sharing And Privacy Options – Including GIF sharing
- Boost Mode for PS4 Pro
Let’s get this out-of-the-way. Most of this is incremental updates. Maybe you are super excited about being able to share GIFs of your gameplay. It’s not a wide-spread sought after function. The most important thing is the external hard drive support.
With people opting to go digital without physical media, hard drive space is a premium. By purchasing an external hard drive and installing games to that, you don’t have to play the “should I delete this to get more space game”. That’s one of the least fun games on any console.
